Overwatch tier list but it’s all the trees
Overwatch has a ton of great maps that are set all around the world.
Along with the amazing settings that they have created, the art design folks for Overwatch included a ton of amazing trees. In the past few weeks, various organizations and individuals have donated millions of dollars to plant trees around the world as part of the #teamtrees effort. Of course, team trees was not the first campaign to push for more trees, but it is the biggest one right now.
Since we are all about trees right now, I thought it would be dope to discuss a tier list of trees which exist in the world of Overwatch. The Overwatch developers are doing their part by imagining a future where there are still trees!
Tier S
Japanese Cherry Blossom
The Japanese Cherry Blossom, sometimes called the sakura, is an iconic tree that people travel from around the world to witness. The cherry blossom season takes place at different times, ranging from as early as January to as late as May depending on where the tree is located within Japan’s ecosystem. But in Overwatch, it’s blooming all year round.
This is one of the prettiest blossoms in the world.
Banana Tree in Space
Bananas are already difficult to grow, but they are growing them in space? This stunning tree is located on the Horizon Lunar Base, where Winston and Hammond both grew up.
This tree is top tier, not just because it produces food AND oxygen, but also because of the increased difficulty of growing and cross pollinating a tree like this in space. Well played space scientists.
Tier A
Black Forest Pine
These are some classic pine trees located in the black forest. Pine trees are evergreen, which means they don’t drop their leaves/needles when the seasons change. Although pine trees are one of the most common trees in the world, they still deserve some love up here in Tier A.
Japanese Black Pine
Not to be forgotten, the Japanese black pine shares many of the incredible features that its brother, the Black Forest pine, possesses. Although the black pine is not quite as stunning as the Japaense Cherry Blossom, whose environment it shares, the black pine is a respectable tree and a great included detail from the Overwatch team!
Tier B
Royal Palm
The Royal Palm is native to Cuba and can be found on the map Havana. This is a beautiful tree with a lot of iconic heritage. These trees are found within the cityscape and rural landscape alike throughout Cuba. They are known for growing tall and their large leaves.
Acacia Tree
The Acacia tree is common in the subtropical areas of Africa and Australia. They have a distinct type of leaf which presents as a feathery or fernlike growth. Their unique shape makes the tree type stand out. The bark and gum of some acacia trees has been found useful for pharmaceuticals, inks, candies, and more!
Tier C
Doum Palm tree
The Doum Palm, sometimes referred to as a Gingerbread Tree, is a prolific tree throughout North Africa. This type of palm tree produces an edible fruit called the Akaat. This fruit can be dried and made into molasses — or even used in baking! Due to its location in a hot environment, the tree is also valued for the shade it provides.
Bamboo
Bamboo is an evergreen plant which actually comes from the grass family rather than the tree family. The plant is native to various parts of Asia and is a valuable resource. It can grow very tall and very quickly when given enough water.
When eaten in its raw form, bamboo produces cyanide in your gut, so be careful about eating it! If you are going to eat bamboo, you can properly prepare it to make it available for human consumption.
Tier D
Beech Tree
Beech trees are deciduous trees which are native to Europe, Asia, and North America. This type of tree is a very common source of firewood, and has been used for many years to smoke various meats and cheeses. It’s a great tree but it’s in Tier D because it’s pretty basic.
European Hornbeam
As the name denotes, the European Hornbeam is native to Europe. The tree is deciduous and has very few uses beyond serving as a garden feature. Of course it produces oxygen, like trees do, but beyond that it is a somewhat high effort low benefit tree. When trimmed well though, it can make a great feature outside of various European homes.
